This course is structured for the beginner coder or clinician to understand basic coding. This program series will provide attendees with an overview of how to assign ICD-10 codes and review the coding guidelines for ICD-10



Tuesday, October 17

Introduction to ICD-10 Coding Fundamentals:

  • Understand the 4 steps to correctly assign ICD-10-CM Codes
  • Learn to look-up codes effectively using the 4 step method
  • Understand coding conventions necessary for proper code assignment

Tuesday, October 24

Coding of Diagnostic Categories Part 1:

  • Learn how to code neoplasms (C-D codes) properly under ICD-10 including:
    • Neoplasm related conditions: pain, aftercare
  • Understand how to code Diabetes (E codes) and manifestations including:
    • Diabetic neuropathy, diabetic ulcer, diabetes chronic kidney disease
  • Understand how to code Late Effects of CVA and sequela (I codes)
  • Test Your Knowledge examples will be utilized throughout presentation

Tuesday, October 31

Coding of Diagnostic Categories Part 2:

  • Understand the specifics of ulcer coding (L codes)
  • Review how to code pressure ulcers which incorporates the location and stage into one code
  • Review how to code non-pressure ulcers coding which incorporates the location and depth into one code
  • Understand fracture coding (S codes) and how it relates to M1011 and M1021-M1023
  • Review the 7th digit character extension
  • Review the types of Aftercare Coding (Z Codes) including:
    • Aftercare following surgery, therapy cases
  • Test Your Knowledge examples will be utilized throughout presentation
