Influenza (“the flu”) is a contagious illness that can be severe and life-threatening, especially for older adults. One reason flu can be severe for older adults is that the immune system weakens with age, which makes it harder to fight disease. The flu can also make existing health problems worse and is especially dangerous for people with chronic health conditions, like heart disease and diabetes, which commonly affect older adults.
Flu + You campaign ambassador, two-time Emmy and Tony-award-winning actress Judith Light—starring in the new Broadway play Therese Raquin—is once again educating older adults and those who care for them about the seriousness of the flu, importance of prevention, and available vaccine options.
Find out more from Light in her new public service announcement (PSA) and check out what older adults had to say about their knowledge of the flu and flu prevention in a new survey. Click below to get started.
