This would normally be the week that Alliance members would be in Washington as part of the NHPCO Leadership Advocacy Conference and the NAHC March on Washington. In fact, we had Capitol Hill visits scheduled for today with health policy aides from our Congressional Delegation. Those events were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Instead, several Alliance Board Members, Janice McDermott and I had conference calls with Congresswoman Kuster’s and Congressman Pappas’s staff this morning. We will have calls with Senator Shaheen’s and Senator Hassan’s staff later today.
There are two key messages we are conveying:
- Home care and Hospice agencies are on the front lines of care. We need expedited access to Personal Protective Equipment in order to protect patients and providers.
- Congress needs to maximize the use and support for all types of telehealth in home care and hospice.
- Allow the Hospice F2F encounter to be conducted remotely, even by telephone
- Allows telehealth encounters to substitute for visits in both home care and hospice to reduce transmission and improve access to care
Congress needs to hear from home care and hospice providers. YOU CAN HELP!
Use NAHC’s Legislative Advocacy Center to send a message to our Congressional Delegation. It’s easy! Just click on the “Add Your Voice” button in the center column, input your name and info and click send. The message is auto-populated. Encourage all your staff to do this, and ask them to ask one friend to send the message too.
Thank you in advance for your advocacy. And most important, thank for your care and compassion for patients in this unprecedented time.
