Alliance & Rivier Team Up to Support Home Care Nursing Student Programs

The Alliance and Rivier University are activily recruiting home care and hospice agencies interested in providing clinical opportunities for junior year BSN students.

Emily Sheff, MS, RN, FNP-BC, Partnership Liaison for Project REEP, will discuss how agencies can provide clinical placements for students in the Spring Semester, January 19 – April 30, 2022.  Rivier is using a preceptor model (1 student with 1 nurse) for Thursdays and Fridays for 4-week blocks, over a 12-week semester.  The nurse preceptor would work with 3 different students.  Clinical placements are confirmed in July, so now is your agency’s chance to get involved in growing new nurses.

The course and clinical placement are part of a federal grant to train community nurses.  As part of the grant, Rivier will offer the nurse preceptor $250 for the semester.  In addition, Rivier and Southern NH AHEC are offering a Preceptor Fellowship to provide preceptors education on working with students.  The asynchronous modules will be available for preceptors in December.  Rivier will also provide a $250 stipend for completion of the 4- 5 modules.

As Dr. Paula Williams,  Rivier’s Dean of Nursing & Health Professions, said at our recent Alliance Membership Meeting, “Nurses are comfortable where they learn.”

I encourage member agencies to make a commitment to help educate future nurses.  The more student nurses we have working in home care and hospice, the more likely we’ll be able to recruit them when they start their careers.
