TOPIC: The Aide’s Role in Working with Clients with Diabetes

July 8, 2020 (WEDNESDAY)
Speaker: Kathie Smith, RN, BSN

Description: Diabetes is a chronic (long-lasting) health condition that affects how the body turns food into energy. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), 34.2 million people have diabetes (10.5% of the US population). With diabetes, the body either doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t use the insulin it makes as well as it should. When there isn’t enough insulin or cells stop responding to insulin, too much blood sugar stays in the bloodstream. Over time, that can cause serious health problems, such as heart disease, vision loss, and kidney disease. Assisting a client who has diabetes is an important part of the role of the In-home aide, this webinar will cover the type of assistance a client with diabetes may need and how to use observations to report changes in condition.
