ExpiredCoding Update for FY 2021

More than 420 new codes take effect for FY 2021 along with several revisions in code descriptions and requirements. This webinar goes beyond providing your staff with the code changes for October 1st and combines the impact of the updated coding guidelines.  Any updated codes impacting PDGM, effective January 1, 2020, will also be reviewed. Class is suitable for home health & hospice.

  • Identify the new coding changes that affect home health & hospice
  • Determine which codes now require greater specificity & updated coding instructions
    • Some highlights include:
      • New codes for CKD stage 3a, 3b and unspecified
      • Use additional code for Parkinson’s disease
      • Updates to sickle cell disorders
      • Additions to alcohol and drug use/abuse with withdrawal
      • New 5th character for cerebellar ataxia
      • Pyogenic, RA and OA arthritis other code additions
      • New codes for narcotic poisoning
      • Many new codes with a 4th or 5th character “A” added
      • Changes with codes listed as Excludes 1 & Excludes 2 for specific diagnoses
      • Final guidance for vaping disorders and COVID-19 coding
    • Review updates & changes to coding guidelines for FY 2021 effective October 1, 2020
      • Some highlights include:
        • Updates to hypertension guideline and includes
        • Updates to diabetes and secondary diabetes medication control requirements
      • Discuss Test Your Knowledge cases to illustrate the new coding changes

She has educated more than 20,000 people in nationwide on coding.  Joan is past president of the Massachusetts Health Information Management Association (MaHIMA) and active member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).  Usher is a Board of Director of Hospice & Palliative Care of MA and a past Board of Director Home Care Alliance of MA.  Joan’s webinars consistently earn outstanding reviews from participants.
