On our last call we reviewed the survey that went out to members and recent conference attendees. The following ideas are based on our discussion of survey responses:

  • A virtual conference seems to be preferred for this year.
  • AHEC should be asked to host the platform and provide CE credits again
  • Session topics/speaker might include
    • A pain lecture that includes reference to opioid treatment since this is a requirement for physicians
      • Rosene Pirrello, BPharm, RPh is a pharmacist specialist in palliative care at the University of California Irvine Medical Center. In this role she cares for patients in both the inpatient hospital setting and the ambulatory palliative care clinic. She provides education to physician, pharmacist and nursing staff
    • Symptom management issues – management of nausea – Mary Lynn McPhersen recommend as a speaker (palliative physician and educator – Baltimore)
    • Grief – Alan Wolfelt would be a great speaker
    • An ethics session that meets the requirement for Social Workers
    • Non-pharma options for physical and emotional comfort – Healing Rhythms Music Therapy | Rochester, MN (healingrhythmsmt.com)
    • Regulatory Issues/View from Washington

Since we met – I have had the following thoughts:

  • Do we want a one day event or multiple short events?
  • Possible Themes:
    • The Best Care Possible – – More Important than ever
    • The Best Care Possible – What Matters Now
  • Ideas for plenary speakers:
  • Bill Dombi – NAHC – View from Washington – future of hospice & Palliative Care
  • Alan Wolfelt – Pandemic Grief etc. – see attached articles
  • Stephen Kiernan – author – hospice is more important than ever – Stephen Kiernan – Consider the Conversation – YouTube
