Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is now conducting analyses of hospice claims and the hospice cost report.  In analysis of hospice cost reports it was identified there is a significant gap between what hospice is paid by CMS and the hospice cost of care per day.  In addition, 66% of hospice cost reports failed level 1 edits.

 

The webinar will focus on 3 key components of Medicare hospice cost reporting.

  • Explain the importance of the cost report and the changes in cost reporting. Discuss 2018 MedPAC Report.
  • Discuss the new cost report form with a focus on data requirements while identifying problem areas and changes need for the future.  Also outline steps to be taken to change recordkeeping.
  • Review lessons learned from Years 1 and 2 of the new cost report.  Also present recent CMS guidance and future changes.

 

Presenter:  David C. Macke, MBA, CHFP, FHFMADavid has been with VonLehman and Company since 1991 and was admitted as Shareholder in October 2004. He is responsible for the firm’s practice in preparing and / or reviewing Medicare and Medicaid Cost Reports for hospitals, home health agencies, hospices, home offices, federally qualified health clinics, rural health clinics, skilled nursing facilities and other providers. He is annually involved with over 80 cost reports and is responsible for reimbursement consulting services to various healthcare clients relating to Medicare and Medicaid cost reporting and strategic planning. Dave is also responsible for reviewing proposed settlements by Medicare and Medicaid Intermediaries for accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations and rules.
