Program Description

The "maze of Medicare" can be confusing even to those who have worked in Hospice for years—and even more overwhelming to new clinicians learning the Medicare Hospice Benefit. This two-day boot camp provides myth-busting clarity, tools, and CMS-based regulatory guidance on eligibility/LCDs, documentation, HOPE, survey readiness, and hospice quality programs.

Learning Objectives

  • Discuss the fundamental principles of the Medicare Hospice Benefit (MBPM Chapter 9) and how they guide hospice care delivery.
  • Identify the eligibility criteria for hospice, including terminal prognosis and LCD guidance.
  • Interpret and apply key Medicare Conditions of Participation (CoPs) and Conditions for Payment specific to hospice.
  • Evaluate the purpose and structure of the HOPE data set and its role in quality reporting and compliance.
  • Develop strategies to maintain compliance during surveys, ADRs, and medical review.

Target Audience

Hospice leaders and clinicians who are new to the industry or in need of a refresher course.

Recording

Registered agencies will be sent a recording link following each presentation. Recordings will be available through September 30, 2026, and may be used within your agency as needed (for new hires, as a refresher course, etc.).

Speaker

Annette Lee, RN, MS, HCS-D, COS-C, Founder and President, Provider Insights, Inc., Des Moines, IA
Annette is a registered nurse, with a Master’s in Health Care Administration, practicing since 1990, with the majority of her nursing experience in home health and hospice. For over a decade she worked with the CMS Medicare Administrative Contractor where she provided review of, and education on home health and hospice reimbursement, coverage and documentation. Annette then founded “Provider Insights, Inc” out of a need in the industry to translate “Medicare-ese” into language agencies could understand and assists providers daily with audits, quality improvement and survey preparation. She marries together her experience in the “real world” and the inside knowledge of Medicare to ensure providers can meet the requirements of CMS, and ensure compliant, efficient operations. Annette presents and consults nationally on the Conditions of Participation, (COPs), Survey, OASIS, PDGM, audits, quality measures and documentation and coverage for both the home health and hospice benefits. Annette holds both the Certificate for OASIS Specialist-Clinical and the Home Care Coding Specialist-Diagnosis certification.
